2. THE CRUCIFIXION
When Christ was scourged and was carrying His
cross it was not the sanitised event
that is portrayed on film and television.
He was being mutilated and tortured from the
outset of the scourging to being placed upon the
cross. This aspect as been acknowledged by
Pope John Paul II, and was intentionally and
accurately portrayed in the film
The Passion of the Christ.
Beyond this Catholics have also lost sight
of the supernatural aspects of Faith.
Other prisoners would have suffered
as they walked to their death,
but they would not have been flayed,
had their flesh torn apart, and been mutilated
which was what actually happened to Jesus
on His way to Calvary.
On Christs journey to Calvary Satan was fully in
charge of proceedings and for a few hours
Satan placed barriers up
against the crowd's and soldier's hearts which
suspended what humans recognise as God's
'natural law'.
Christ was to be mutilated and tortured for daring
to challenge Satan's authority on Earth.
Finally, there is one piece of Catholic teaching
which has been lost which must be fully understood.
Without this deposit of faith we
cannot comprehend how
Christ suffered when he descended to Hell.
It will shed light on why all Christian's should be
humble before God
Why does Satan want you,
and as many people as possible,
to go to hell?
To the average person, let alone the average
Catholic, it does not seem logical
that someone would want to destroy you to the
point that you would suffer in
despair forever. The answer
lies in the fact that Satan was once in heaven
and has seen the true glory of God.
He has seen everything that God has
created for us all.
God's transfigured glory is filled
with so much majesty and
love for His creation,
that after Satan was thrown out
of the angelic realm
he began to hate you
to your very core.
WHY?
He knows that you have an opportunity
to gain what he has lost forever.
He despises you to the very core of
your existence because you
can now gain that which
he will never be able to behold again.
Satan wants to guarantee the worst thing
that is possible for every human being.
He wants to separate every human from
God's love for all eternity. It is this
perpetual separation from
God that we know as hell.
Separation from God is the greatest state of
suffering and despair that a human being
can experience.
This separation from God will perpetually
expose
'the full ramifications and extent'
of every sin that every individual ever committed.
This personal revelation will manifest itself as
the pain of human flesh being burned.
This will continue for all eternity.
(Whilst we are on Earth God shields us from the
physical and mental pain, which is described
in scripture, as flesh burning).
However, the final part of the judgement
will be that those who end up in hell
will instantaneously know that
they fully deserve this perpetual despair
due to sins that they committed against others
whilst on Earth. Despite
knowing this truth there will be
nothing that they can
do about it.
Without this lost Catholic knowledge we
can never fully comprehend what Christ
went through when he descended
into hell for our sakes.
So, at the moment of Christ’s death he descended
into hell for three days and experienced
mental torture,
mental suffering and despair to the extent that his
body and flesh burned. He experienced the despair
of being separated from the transfigured love of His
(and our) Father.
However, Christ had to conquer the grave.
He had to be the first re-born of all creation.
So Christ's suffering went beyond all human
experience of suffering.
During His journey from the Garden at Gethsemane
until He descended in to hell He experienced the full
consequence, pain, and weight of every sin
committed by every single human being
since the beginning of time.
His pain and suffering was not restricted
to the physical pain of being crucified
(as many Catholics still believe).
He bore the FULL exposure to the
manifestation of pain of every single sin
of the 12 billion people who have ever lived
and all those still to come.
In doing so He conquered sin.
This is what we really mean when we talk about
Christ carrying His cross.
He was not carrying His Cross, he was carrying the
12 billion crosses that bear the pain of sin of
every human that ever lived.
These are the sins of the world.
HE ENDURED ALL OF THIS SUFFERING
SO THAT YOU COULD BE SAVED.
This is why we say in Mass....
Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins
of the world John 1:29
