Support Little Walsingham's Village & Struggling Businesses!!!!
Having just returned from a wonderful pilgrimage to Walsingham I thought I would highlight a point that came to my attention whilst talking to the locals.
Apparently some (if not all) of the local businesses in Little Walsingham have obviously taken a financial 'hit' with the recession. However, it came to my attention that they have had other problems to deal with as well. The creation and expansion of the various visitor amenities at the Anglican Shrine have caused much of the business to be taken away from local shops, pubs and cafes.
There were also complaints from locals that business had been hit because the Anglican Shrine would not move the date of one of its conferences so that it did not coincide with the Catholic New Dawn Conference which has been on the first week of August for the last 25 years.
This meant that businesses were not only overstretched but, I was personally told that businesses could not make as much money with two conferences in one week as they could with two conferences over two weeks, because there is only so much service that can be provided at any one time. Hence, a combination of events has caused problems within the village.
So, I can't tell you how to spend your money, but the next time you are there remember that it is important that we have our pilgrimages but I think it is important to support the local village which depend on us all. Let's face it, it is a special place and I for one would hate to see it change. Of course, this is easy for me to say as a pilgrimage to Walsingham would be unthinkable without tea & cake at the Swallows.
SUPPORT LITTLE WALSINGHAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
