What is Youth 2000?
Youth 2000 was set up 15 years ago by a disenchanted Catholic barrister who wanted the church to turn away from liberalism and return to the traditional teachings & liturgy of the church for young people. In short, it is a gateway to orthodoxy in the more mainstream church. Even the Fr. Hugh Thwaites and Fr. Youth 2000 seeks to draw young people into a relationship with
Jesus Christ, lived at the heart of the Catholic church. It does this
primarily through weekend prayer festivals, where young people are
introduced to the essentials of the catholic faith: Mass, Eucharistic
Adoration, confession, scripture, devotion to Our Lady. These festivals
are opportunities for young people to experience the love of God, to
receive the grace of conversion and to begin living anew the Christian
life.
What is its role in the church?

Youth 2000 has been active in youth ministry in the UK for the last 20
years, and has played its part in the new evangelisation of this time. It is particularly notable that it is championed by Bishop Mark Davies. Youth 2000 was mentioned in Pope John Paul II’s ad limina address to the Bishops of England and Wales in 2003. Fr Stephen Wang is the chaplain to Youth 2000.
In the UK Youth 2000 organises an annual three day pilgrimage to the Catholic Shrine of Our Lady at Walsingham. The event takes place in the Youth 2000 'big tent' that holds all two thousand of the Catholic Youth in an adjacent fields to the shrine. It also organises 'two day' weekend events which are normally held in Catholic Schools. There are Masses and talks held everyday.
THE BURNING BUSH
A highlight is the presence of the 'Burning Bush' a large upturned conical structure with candles. The Blessed Sacrament sits on top of the structure whilst up to 2000 youths kneel. This is proceeded by a priest holding the monstrance with his stoll as he walks around the youth who are kneeling. The priest stops in front of every person and are offered the stoll to kiss and to spend a few moments in front of the Blessed Sacrement.
